With the New Year always comes new obstacles and failures, and for Homer it seems to be failure. After Homer is awakened from a drunken slumber, he attempts to clean up from the night before by bringing out the trash. Here he is served with several tickets for the new laws that have been put in place and to be carried out at the start of the year. To Homer’s disappointment he has earned $1,000 dollars in reparation to the government and is looking for a way out. In hopes of bribing someone to rid him of his tickets, he is caught and arrested. Homer is then sentenced to 10 years in prison. However he learns that if he helps the cops catch a mob boss called “fat Tony” his time will be reduced. Homer does just this; he goes undercover and gets an "in" with the mob boss and earning all of his trust allowing him to share what he considers “special moments” with Homer. Homer begins to realize that he feels close to this mobster and actually doesn’t want to hurt him or betray him because unlike the cops, “fat Tony” isn’t using him... he actually trusts in Homer. When Tony brings Homer with him to do a deal, the cops bust Tony who ends up dying and Homer is really hurt by this. Later “fat Tony’s” cousin “fit Tony” finds Homer and plans to kill him. Seeing how Homer felt about his cousin changes his mind and spares Homer. “Fit Tony” takes over the Springfield mob and eventually due to stress becomes the next “fat Tony”. Homer goes back to his regular life and finds that things are fine the way they are and that he is happy with the family that he has.
